Who is Maria do Sol
I swim better than I walk. A childhood accident took both of my legs, and I've been an amputee since I was very young.
I won't romanticize what came after. Hard stories are hard stories. There was a time I wasn't sure I could keep going. That was the bottom, and it's where I turned.
What changed wasn't my story, it was the way I tell it. I stepped out of the victim's seat and rewrote my own narrative: life stopped happening to me and started happening for me and through me. Courage, I learned, isn't the absence of fear. It's deciding your next move before you can see the whole path.
In 2018 I moved to Florianópolis, and the first thing I did was find a surf association. The ocean gave me back my body and my joy. A mother of five, today I'm a Brazilian parasurf champion and third in the world.
But competition is only a stage. Today I help people surf the waves of life, the transitions and the tides, with courage to act, consciousness to sustain it, and faith to keep going. Not as a destination, but as a practice.
